A memorial service for Jessie Schmidt, age 97, of Mora will be held 2 PM on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church in Pine City.
Friends may gather one hour before the service.
Jessie Schmidt, age 97, of Mora died March 14, 2007 at the Cambridge Medical Center.
Jessie Alyce Schmidt was born June 6, 1909 at Pine City to Major and Fredricka Greig. The family moved to Oregon and then back to Pine City where she attended school. On June 18, 1930 she married Theodore Johnston and they made their home in Pine City. Jessie had various jobs in Pine City; she worked at the Fair Store in the dry goods section, she was a reporter for the Pine Coker-Pioneer Newspaper; and she worked in the office of the Pine City Coop-Creamery. She was secretary in the VFW Auxiliary in Pine City and she was a Girl Scout leader in Pine City in the 1950’s.They moved to Sheboygan, Wisconsin and Jessie worked for Plastics Engineering Company. After they retired they moved to Isanti and then to Braham. Her husband, Theodore, died in 1978 and Jessie moved to Cambridge. In 1982 she married Leonard Schmidt and they lived in Pine City until her husband, Leonard, died in 1989. Jessie then moved back to Cambridge and then to Mora for the past 6 years. Jessie enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing her produce; doing crafts and crocheting; and playing cards with her family and friends.
Besides her parents and her 2 husbands she was preceded in death by 1 great- granddaughter, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by her daughter, LaVonne Skajewski of Mora; 4 grandchildren, Peter, LaNor, Brenda and Nicole; 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Florence Grove of Pine City; 1 brother, Donald (Dorothy) Greig of Pine City; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church in Pine City. Friends may gather one hour before the service. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel.
