Elwood N. Tiller, age 82, of Cambridge passed away April 12, 2007 at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Cambridge Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Monday, April 16th at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel and also 1 hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Elwood Nelson Tiller was born May 21, 1924 in Minneapolis to Albert and Hilda Tiller. He was raised in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He served in the Navy during World War II. After his military service he returned to Minneapolis. On August 12, 1949 he married Phyllis Stewart and they made their home in St. Louis Park. Elwood was employed by the Post Office and after his retirement they moved to Cable, Wisconsin in 1981. In 1994 they moved to Cambridge. He was a member of Cambridge Lutheran Church, Son’s of Norway and the Isanti Happy Seniors Club. Elwood especially enjoyed the grandchildren and all of the family activities. He loved children and volunteered both in the school and church. In school he would listen to the children read and at church he was active in LOGOS and the Loaves and Fishes program. He was also active with Big Brothers of America. Elwood also enjoyed antique cars and going to antique car shows with his nephew, Jim and Linda Hanson. He and his son, David, and granddaughter, Johanna, wrote a book about his antique model cars. When they lived at Cable he volunteered at the American Birkebeiner Ski Race and even hosted skiers who came from a distance. Elwood enjoyed traveling, family camping and collecting rocks from their various trips.
Elwood passed away on April 12, 2007 at Bethesda Rehabilitation Hospital in St. Paul at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 21 days. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by 1 son-in-law, Ahmed Sanad Al-Ghamdi; 2 brothers, Donald and Rodger. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Cambridge; 5 children, Laura Sanad Al-Ghamdi of Saudi Arabia, Ed (Cindy) Tiller of Isanti, Pat (Linda) Tiller of Sharon, Massachusetts, David (Terry) Tiller of Bloomington, Chris Tiller and fiancé Phil Bohn of Ann Arbor, Michigan; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, June Hanson of Coon Rapids; and by many other relatives and friends.
