John William Armstrong, age 63, of Isanti died May 21st at his home. A visitiation will be held from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel. Funeral services will be heldat 11:00 AM on Friday, May 25th at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. Visitation also 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church. John William Armstrong was born March 29, 1944 at Rochester, Minnesotato Phillip and Irene (Griffin) Armstrong. Phillip was serving his country during WWII in Normandy at the time of John’s birth. Phillip died in Normandy. Irene later married John Finley and they raised John. He grew up and attended school in the Dover area near Rochester. John served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Coral Sea. After the service he returned to Minnesota and on July 26, 1966 he was united in marriage to Sandy Horsman in St. Paul. They made their home in Rochester and later moved several times. In 1979 they moved to Isanti where they have lived ever since.
John was a caring person with a big heart. He always provided for his family and he often reached out to help friends. He could fix anything and he enjoyed rebuilding and running steam engines. He also loved flying his airplane, going on cruises and he loved his dogs.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sandy of Isanti; son, John Jr. (Amy) Armstrong of Mora; daughter, Lynn (Shane) Hanson of Ramsey; two grandchildren, John Phillip Armstrong and Katie Grassini; six sisters, Mary (Henry) Hanson, Rita (Dale) Denger, Linda Wiebrand, Colleen (Bill) Klucas, Sue (Bob) Ferguson, and Kitty (Rick) Millen; by other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
