Warren Ernest Powell, age 95, of Cambridge passed away January 5, 2008 at Grandview Christian Home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 8th at Strike Funeral Home-Cambridge Chapel with Rev. Martin Bentz officiating. A time for visiting will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis at a later date.
Warren Ernest Powell was born in Anoka County to Lew and Ada Powell. He was raised on the home farm in Anoka County where Northtown Mall is now located. He graduated from Anoka/Ramsey High School, Class of 1926. On May 23, 1932 he married Maysel Bauer in Salem, South Dakota. They made their home in Lauderdale where they raised their children, Patricia and Richard. Warren worked for the Star Tribune for several years. He managed several Firestone Stores in the Midwest and he was Justice of the Peace in Lauderdale and held court in his Lauderdale home several times. He was also a founding partner of Team Electronics. Warren and Maysel then owned and operated Wulleiinda Lodge on Lake Sylvia in South Haven, Minnesota. After retirement they spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona and summers at Lake Sylvia. In September of 2003 they moved to Cambridge to be near their grandchildren.
Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Maysel, on February 10, 2005. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia (James) Rapp of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; son, Richard Powell of Cambridge; 4 grandchildren, Lynn (Arlen) Diercks of Red Wing, Mark (Sara) Rapp of Cambridge, Mike (Gwen) Rapp of Cambridge, Merry (Wayne) Dankers of Cambridge; 8 great-grandchildren, Brian, Jacob (Rachel), Lea, Katie, Justin, Ross, Jordan and Alyssa; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Trinity, Noah, Faith and Landon; sister, Beatrice Nelson of Elk River; and by other relatives and friends.
