Vie Niemi, age 96, of Princeton died February 18, 2008 at the Elim Home of Princeton. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 23rd at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel with Rev. Howard Skulstad officiating. A time for visiting will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
Vienna E. Niemi was born September 15, 1911 in Aurora, Minnesota to John and Edla Niemi. She was raised in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School. After high school Vie moved to Minneapolis. She worked in the family owned business, Schooner Tavern, in Minneapolis. In 1995 she moved to the Kaley House in Princeton and later into the Elim Home. She was proud of her Finnish heritage and she enjoyed teaching the Finnish language to family and friends. A highlight of her life was a visit to Finland where she visited the family homestead.
She is survived by 1 nephew, Phil (Barbara) Bodine of Isanti; 5 nieces, Beatrice (Jerry) Anderson of Isanti, Vivian (Don) Bratt of New Brighton, Nancy (Vic) Olson of Brooklyn Park, Carrie Williams of Castle Rock, Colorado and Carol Shelley of Duluth; and by other relatives and friends.
