Wesley E. Ward, age 88 of Cambridge passed away Monday, September 15, 2008 at Grace Pointe Crossing/Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 19th at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel with Pastor Ed Wheatley officiating. A visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service. Following a luncheon at the Cambridge American Legion, interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Weber.
Wesley Eugene Ward was born May 18, 1920 at Pillager, Minnesota to Franklin and Blanche (Rogers) Ward. He was raised and attended school in Pillager and Minneapolis. Wesley spent two years in CCC camps and he thoroughly enjoyed those experiences. He then served his country in the US Army Air Force in Word War II, being stationed mostly in Iceland. On April 23, 1945 Wesley was united in marriage to Irene Boeke. They made their first home in Almelund and later moved to a farm in Spring Lake. In 1969 they moved to Cambridge. Wesley farmed and also worked at the Twin City Arsenal. He then worked at Univac where he worked as a metal finisher for 25 years. Wesley was a member of the Cambridge American Legion and his hobbies included woodworking, hunting and especially fishing. He also had a good sense of humor and loved telling jokes.
Wesley is survived by seven children; Cheryl (Larry) Stratton of Jacksonville, Florida, Judy Olson of Stacy, Morris (Marjorie) Ward of Wyoming, Minnesota, Jeanne (Michael) Olson of Isanti, Randy Ward of San Diego, California, Tammy Ward and partner Laura Scher of Minneapolis, Tricia Ward of Mounds View; daughter-in-law, Patricia Ward of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lyle Ward of North Branch; two sisters, Lois Olsen of Orlando, Florida, and Donna Sanborn of Center City; and by many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, son, Bruce, brother, Orville, and three sisters, Viola Smith, Lorna Korbicka and Adeline Ward.
