Bernice Millicent Richmond was born October 19, 1927 at Mound, Minnesota to George and Lillian (Mickelson) Chapman. She was raised and attended school in Mound. Bernice met Hubert Richmond at Gambles in Minneapolis and in August 1954 they were married. They lived most of their married life in Columbia Heights. Bernice was employed as a nursing assistant at Central Care Center in NE Minneapolis for 34 years. She retired to do full time day care for her daughter, Launa, in Isanti. Bernice loved caring for her grandchildren and she babysat her granddaughter Candy since she was 6 weeks old. Making apple butter with her grandson Jason was also a favorite activity while also caring for and spoiling her grandchildren.
In Bernice’s and Hubert’s early years they often enjoyed taking their children to Hubert’s parents resort in Three Lakes, Wisconsin. They loved the outdoors and they both absolutely loved fishing. They also loved camping, often in Ely. Camping with her daughter Linda and husband Richard and family was always an especially enjoyable time. Another special family activity was going to the 100 Twin drive-in movie theater. Bernice was also an Avon lady for 25 years and shared that passion with her daughters Sherri and Judy. Bernice especially enjoyed scary monster movies. She was also an avid reader and often read scary books and passed that love on to all four of her children. Bernice was an avid Minnesota Twins baseball fan since their beginning and she very rarely missed a game on TV or radio. Her favorite time of year was the Christmas season.
Bernice will be lovingly remembered by her four daughters, Linda (Dan) Doolin of Snohomish, Washington, Judy Richmond of Cambridge, Sherri (Jay) Moche of Moncure, North Carolina, and Launa Hollen (Randy) of Isanti; one brother, Lyle (Darlene) Chapman of Arizona; 9 grandchildren, Jason, Candy, Nicki, Shawn, Alissia, Chrissy, Elizabeth, Shannon and Michael; 11 great-grandchildren, and by other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert in 1985, and by her son-in-law, Richard Mayer.
