Homer Carey, age 82, of Cambridge died December13, 2008 at his son’s home in Blaine. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 17th at North Isanti Baptist Church with Rev. Jonathan Larson officiating. A gathering time will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Homer Carey was born March 24, 1926 in Winfield, Kansas to John and Laura Carey. His family moved to Missouri where he was raised. Homer served in the Navy during World War II and sailed on the battleship USS Massachusetts. After the service he married Ruth Tyree on September 28, 1946. They made their home in Brooklyn Center for many years. They then moved to Arkansas for 5 years and then about 8 years ago they moved to Cambridge to be closer to their family. Homer and Ruth were an example for the whole family by showing what real love is. Homer was a craftsman and enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture and gardening.
Homer passed away at his son’s home in Blaine on December 13, 2008 at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 19 days. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ruth. Ruth died on July 6, 2008.
Homer is survived by two sons, Rodger (Katherine) Carey of Blaine, Jeffrey (Claudia) Carey of Ham Lake; 5 grandchildren, Patrick (Airi), Christopher (Angie), Paul (Melissa), Kelly Ruth and Marc; 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dwight (Diane) Stroad of Eldon, Missouri; one sister, Elma Stroad of Wichita, Kansas; and by many other relatives and friends.
