Richard Larson, age 87, of Cambridge died peacefully May 29, 2009 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M.on Tuesday, June2nd at First Baptist Church in Cambridge with Rev. Bob Jonsson and Rev. Rodney Larson officiating. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Richard Glen Larson was born as the first child of Christ and Olga Larson in Westbrook Minnesota on August 15, 1921. As the oldest child, it was his responsibility to work full time on the farm after completing 8 years of education. He joined the US Navy in 1942 and sailed aboard the USS Stevenson in the Atlantic and the Pacific until December of 1945. Following his discharge, he married Winnifred Marie McCullough in 1947 in Milaca, Minnesota. The couple moved to Cambridge in 1954 after Richard took a job working in the power plant at the state hospital in Cambridge. He worked there until he retired in 1982. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Cambridge. He will be remembered as a servant of the church and of the body of Christ.
Richard died peacefully at home on May 29, 2009 at the age of 87. Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Howard, and one sister, Grace.
Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Winnifred; three children, Rodney (Gwen) Larson of St. Paul, Rosemarie (Ray) Maki of Youngstown, Ohio and RaeAnn (Bill) Schmidt of Coon Rapids; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Paulson of Foley; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Memorials preferred to: First Baptist Church, Children’s Shelter of Cebu and Bethel University.
