Daphne Peterson, age 84, of Cambridge died October 18, 2009 peacefully at her daughter’s home. A funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 27th at Cambridge Lutheran Church with Pastor Andy Romstad officiating. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery.
E. Daphne Peterson was born November 14, 1924 to Bert and Ruth Bodenner of Grandy, Minnesota. Her early life was spent in Canada where the family farmed. She was united in marriage with Meyers Peterson on June 24, 1947 at the Cambridge Lutheran Church.
To this marriage four children were born: Connie (Terry) Kassa, Larry (Sandy) Peterson, Carla Peterson (Tammy Harper) and Carol (Kevin) Scott. Twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren were born to their families. She is also survived by her brother Donald and his wife Shirley of Duluth; four nephews, Val Peterson, and Randy, Don and Kevin Bodenner.
Daphne was a 1943 graduate of Cambridge High School and a 1946 graduate of St. Cloud State University. Daphne taught math, music and directed several bands and choirs during her teaching career. At Cambridge Lutheran Church she directed the Junior choir and played in the bell choir for several years. She taught at Paynesville, Buhl, Cambridge, New London and Minneapolis.
Daphne was a leader in the National Education Association and the Minnesota Education Association and served for years as a member of the St. Cloud State University Alumni Board.
Her hobbies included bird watching, sewing dozens of dresses for her granddaughters, quilting, knitting, rug making, playing cards and all sorts of music.
Meyers and Daphne retired and returned to Cambridge in 1987. They were married for 62 years. Meyers preceded Daphne in death on September 2, 2009. Daphne passed away October 18, 2009 at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 4 days.
