Lumir J. Honzik, age 95, of The Villages of North Branch and formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died June 19, 2010 at the Villages. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 24th at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Lumir Joseph Honzik was born December 13, 1914 to Joseph and Katherine (Egermeier) Honzik in Walford, Iowa. He was raised in Czech Village in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1937 he married Vlasta (Peg) Tomes. He and Peg made their home in Cedar Rapids for many years. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids for over 80 years. Lumir was employed as a tool design engineer for Bert Speeder Corporation. He was a member of the Eagles Club, he enjoyed fishing, golfing and he was an avid bowler. In the fall of 2008 he moved to Grace Point Crossing in Cambridge, Minnesota to be closer to his son, Ed. Since this past December he was a resident of The Villages of North Branch.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Peg; son, Ray; sister, Julia; and brother, Oscar. Lumir is survived by 1 son, Ed (Marty) Honzik of Isanti, Minnesota; 4 grandchildren, Clark (Diane) Honzik of Andover, Minnesota and their children, Ethan, Alaina and Levi; Nicole (John) Franks of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Karmen Wasson of Cedar Rapids and her children, Kelsey Ray and Alyssa, Kristene Honzik of Las Vegas, Nevada; by 3 step-grandchildren; by 6 step-great-grandchildren; and by many other relatives and friends.
