Jan E. Rieck, age 65, of Cambridge died September 13, 2010 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, September 16th at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel with Pastor Bill Berg officiating. A time for visiting will be held two hours prior to the service.
Janice Esther Rieck was born October 17, 1944 at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Wilmar and Esther (Lindberg) Swedeen. She was raised in the Cambridge area and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1962. On May 11, 1963 Jan married Glenn Nyberg and they had two daughters, Julie and Penny. In the 1970’s Jan owned and operated Jan’s Chuckwagon selling concessions at many auctions, horse shows, carnivals and other events.
On October 17, 1979 Jan married Dale Rieck. Jan started working at Cambridge Launderers and Cleaners where she was a devoted employee for 30 years. She was a fun and social person and had such a great way of getting people together and bringing relationships closer. Jan was a good joke teller; she loved playing cards and cribbage, and also enjoyed dancing. She loved being with her kids and grandchildren. Jan loved to give her grandchildren an individual special weekend packed full of activities for their birthdays. The grandchildren often went home completely exhausted. She enjoyed attending New Hope Church.
Jan Rieck passed away September 13, 2010 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 27 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmar and Esther Swedeen; husband, Dale Rieck, and former husband, Glenn Nyberg.
Jan will be lovingly remembered by her son, Rob (Julie) Rieck of New Prague; two daughters, Julie Hunter of Pine City, and Penny (Barry) Dahlin of Ramsey; two brothers, Jim (Lena) Swedeen of Cambridge, and Jerry (Marcia) Swedeen of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Zain, Beau, Alex, Holly, Jenna and Erica; dear friend, Emery Sumption; and by many other relatives and friends.
