Bernice Fluth was born April 23, 1924 to Englebert and Gertrude Browen in Emery, South Dakota. She was 4th oldest in a family of eleven children. As a young girl, she enjoyed playing baseball and riding horseback. At the age of 10 she went forward at an evangelistic meeting and accepted Jesus as her savior and Lord. When she was 17 her mother passed away and she became responsible for the cooking, cleaning and care of her family. On June 20, 1944, she was wed to Lester Fluth, who soon after was sent to Germany to fight in WWII. While her husband was away she moved to Salem, Oregon with a friend and worked there until Lester came home from the war. They began their life together in Emery, South Dakota on a farm that they rented and over time had seven children. In November of 1956, they bought a farm and moved to Cambridge, MN. There Bernice worked hard raising her children, gardening and canning, sewing, cooking and cleaning. She was known for her homemade bread and pies. Her encouragement to her family was found in Matthew 6:33 and was written in the Bibles that were given to them. It reads, Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added onto you. She consistently prayed for her children and grandchildren that they too would realize they need the Lord.
She was an incredibly devoted and loving wife, mother and later grandmother and was deeply loved by all of her family. After 66 years of marriage she went home to be with her Lord on October 27, 2010 and now awaits the reunion with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Englebert and Gertrude Browen, brothers, Lawrence, LeRoy, Raymond, Myron, Luverne and Harold Browen, brother- in- law Lawrence Hanssen, and son, Steven Fluth.
Her love and companionship will be deeply missed by her husband, Lester Fluth, daughter, Jean Linders, daughter, Joyce (Larry) Anderson, son David (Nancy) Fluth, daughter Gloria (Jack) Williams, son Keith (Linda) Fluth, daughter, Susan (Tedd) Owens, her sisters Fern (Calvin) Hanssen, Delores (Roy) Klinger, Eldora Burmeister, sister-in-law, Louella Browen, 26 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and many friends.
