Ethel J. Eastlund, age 87, of Cambridge died February 12, 2011 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 16th at Strike Funeral Home – CAMBRIDGE Chapel with Rev. Harry Eklund officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Isanti Union Cemetery.
Ethel June Eastlund was born June 26, 1923 in Niangua, Missouri to Thomas and Jennie Bates. When Ethel was three years old their family moved to Stanchfield, Minnesota where she grew up. On June 26, 1943 she was united in marriage to Clarence Oscar Eastlund. They lived in Isanti for many years and in 1985 they moved to Cambridge.
Ethel enjoyed rides in the country to look at old barns and at the leaves in the fall. She would often later paint beautiful pictures of what she had seen. She loved painting. Ethel also enjoyed golfing, especially at Grandy Nine Golf Course when Clarence and Ethel managed it in the 1970’s. She also enjoyed sewing her own clothes and she was very good at it. Old time dances were another favorite activity and she also enjoyed a good belly laugh until the tears would run. She also enjoyed her time with her family.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Jay (Audrey) Eastlund of Hinckley, daughter, Becky (Lawrence) Oker of Cambridge; three grandchildren, Steven Eastlund, Tammy (Eric) Johnson, and Tyler Eastlund; three great-grandchildren, Cole Eastlund, Tanna Bjergo, and Anthony Jay Eastlund; sister-in-law, Delores Bates; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, in 1990; by two brothers, Walter and Ted Bates; and by a sister, Alice Haselius.
