Robert D. Bergman, age 89, of Isanti died May 8, 2011 at Fairview Northland Hospital in Princeton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 13th at Long Lake Lutheran Church with Pastor Matt Flom officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, May 12th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel. Visitation also one hour prior to the funeral Friday at the church.
Robert Donald Bergman was born on March 8, 1922 on a farm northwest of Fulda, Minnesota to August and Elmeda (Norlin) Bergman. He spent his first eight years of education in a one room country school and then four years at Fulda High School. He was baptized and confirmed at Lime Lake Lutheran Church in Avoca, Minnesota. Bob married Iola Iverson of Dovray, Minnesota at Westbrook Lutheran Parish House in 1946. They lived on a farm southwest of Avoca for six years. Bob and Iola then moved to a farm near Lime Creek, Minnesota for one year. They sold out all the farm equipment at auction and moved to Bloomington, Minnesota in 1953. Bob worked with several electrical contractors as an electrician until 1973. At that time they moved to Cambridge and took a job with the State Board of Electricity as Electrical Inspector of Isanti and Chisago Counties. In 1979 they built and moved to another new house on Long Lake, west of Isanti. Bob retired in 1985 and moved back to Cambridge in Pine Village. He was a member of Long Lake Lutheran Church in rural Isanti.
He was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 292 in Minneapolis, a member of Masonic Lodge in Fulda, a 32 degree member of Scottish Rite Lodge of Minneapolis and 25 year member of Isanti Lions Club International.
Bob Bergman passed away May 8, 2011 at Fairview Northland Hospital in Princeton at the age of 89 years and 2 months. He is preceded in death by his parents August and Elmeda Bergman; one sister, Fern; eight brothers, Roy, Herbert, Clifford, Melvin, Kenneth, Paul, Rueben and Emmett.
Bob is survived by his wife, Iola; two sons, Randy (Kathleen) Bergman and Richard (Lana) Bergman both of Isanti; six grandchildren, Heidi (Dan) Vandenheuvel, Heather (Mark) Townswick, Tom (Megan) Bergman, Christopher Bergman, Brandon (Dawn Marie) Bergman and Tami (Joe) Huberty; 15 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
