In Loving Memory
VERGIL H. DAHL
Vergil was born on July 4, 1931 in Isanti, Minnesota to Herbert and Agnes (Hedin) Dahl. Soon after, the family moved to a farm east of Bodum. They lived there until Vergil was four years old, when his mother passed away. Herbert moved his family, Vergil and his sister Verlyn, to live with his parents on their farm in Athens. Vergil went to grade school at District 20 in Athens. He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1949.
Vergil moved to Minneapolis and began working at the Sunshine Biscuit Company. The Korean War started and Vergil was drafted into active duty on January 19, 1952. He was discharged as a Corporal E4 AUS on February 1, 1954. After the service he moved to North Minneapolis and lived with his Aunt Elsie and Uncle Al Peterson. Vergil began working in construction with Leo Sinna.
In May of 1957 Vergil married Sally Lundquist and they had two children, Kimberly and Kevin. They lived in New Brighton for a short time and Vergil began working for Harstad Construction. Soon the family built a new home in Isanti at the intersection of highway 65 and county road 5. Six years later the State of Minnesota decided to make highway 65 into a four lane highway and they bought the property from Vergil and Sally. So they moved their house onto a lot on Skogman Lake east of Cambridge. At this time Vergil had been working construction with Adolfson and Peterson Construction Company in Minneapolis. Vergil lived at the lake for many years until his divorce in 1994. Since then he has lived in a variety of places and spent several years with his daughter Kim and granddaughter Lydia.
Vergil enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing softball, curling, and dancing. He was a member of the American Legion Post #290 in Cambridge for 40 years. He was a 50 year Gold Card Member of the Bricklayers Union. Vergil was baptized in March of 1971 and confirmed in March of 1972 at Joy Lutheran Church in Cambridge.
Vergil passed away at Gracewood Assisted Living in North Branch on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 after struggling for over a year with lung cancer and a resulting decline in health.
He is survived by daughter Kimberly from Eagan; son Kevin and wife Janie from Andover; granddaughter Lydia and husband Derek of Edina; granddaughters Megan and Taylor of Andover; sister Verlyn and husband Duane of North Branch; former wife, Sally Dahl of Cambridge; nieces, cousins, and many good friends. Vergil is preceded in death by his parents Herbert Dahl and Agnes (Hedin) Dahl; and step-mothers, Martha (Callin) Dahl and Rosie (Hanson) Dahl.
After cremation interment will be at Fridsborg Cemetery in East Bethel, Minnesota.
