Virgil E. Wicklund, age 92, of Cambridge died September 18, 2012 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 24th at First Baptist Church in Cambridge with Rev. Earl Lassen officiating. A visitation will be held from 3:00 -7:00 P.M. Sunday, September 23rd at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel. (Visitation with reviewal only Sunday at the funeral home.) Interment will be in Cambridge Union Cemetery. Video
Virgil Elsworth Wicklund was bornMay 16, 1920inStanchfieldTownship,Isanti County,Minnesotato Bertel and Minnie (Skoog) Wicklund. He was raised in attended school in Stanchfield. Virgil served his country in the Pacific during WWII. After he returned from the service he became an apprentice meat cutter at Braham Lockers. On October 13, 1945 he married Gertrude Johnson and they lived most of their married life in Cambridge. They were active members atFirstBaptistChurchinCambridge. Virgil owned several businesses over the years including Chris-Wick Lockers inCambridgewhich he operated until 1967. Virgil then started working at the Scotsman inCambridgeand later became a part owner of the business. He also started a drive in restaurant inCambridge. In 1982 Virgil retired and was able to spend more time with his family and going on walks. He enjoyed bowling, watching baseball, wild game hunting shows and game shows, and also playing games, especially with his grandchildren. Virgil was a very gentle, loving and caring person.
Virgil Wicklund passed awaySeptember 18, 2012at GracePointe Crossing Gables West at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 2 days. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude in 2003, and by his nine siblings, Bert, Clifford, Doward, Doris, Roger, Bob, Howard, Vernet and Lloyd.
Virgil will be lovingly remembered by his son, David (Deborah) Wicklund of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter, Darlene (Russell) Pfouts of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Mitchell (Aida) Wicklund, Jennifer (Tom) Sutton, Sonia (Lowell) Burkstrand, and Virgil (Jennifer) Pfouts; seven great-grandchildren, Timothy, Jessica, Scott, Brandon, Alex, Jason and Ryan; and by many other relatives and friends.
