Rubin E. Johnson, age 85, of Isanti died March 22, 2013 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, APRIL 6th at South Isanti Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Venneman officiating. A time for visiting will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment was in Isanti Union Cemetery with Military Honors by the Isanti VFW.
Rubin Emanuel Johnson was born March 24, 1927 in Salol, Minnesota to Frank and Gustava (Gustafson) Johnson. He grew up and attended school in the Roseau area. At age 17 he joined the US. Navy and served his country in WWII mostly on the Asiatic Pacific. On July 27, 1951 Rubin was united in marriage to Gerry Ann Nelson at a Baptist parsonage in Chicago. They started their family in Chicago and moved to Minneapolis in 1959. Rubin and Gerry decided it would be best to raise their kids in the country so they moved to a farm in Isanti in 1964. A short time later they became members at South Isanti Baptist Church. The church was a large part of Rubin’s life over the years and he was active in many church projects and activities.
He worked as a stone mason as part of the Minnesota-North Dakota Bricklayers Union for over 40 years. Rubin worked on several large projects including the IDS Center, Metrodome and Cambridge High School. He also farmed on the side. Rubin was a driven, hardworking, patriotic man. He also had a good sense of humor. He loved hunting, fishing and riding his 4-wheeler. Rubin also loved reading his Bible and he read it cover to cover many times.
Rubin E. Johnson passed away March 22, 2013 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West in Cambridge at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 28 days. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by five sisters, Olyvia Swanson, Edythe Erickson, Florence Sturgis, Berniece Lange, and Linnea Farrester.
Rubin will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Gerry; four children, Michael (Cindy) Johnson of Isanti, Steven (Judy) Johnson of Isanti, Shawna (Timothy) Gleason of Cambridge, Bradley Johnson of Cambridge; one sister, Mary Anderson of Roseau; 9 grandchildren, Adam (Shae), Melissa (Nate), Eric, Coral (Steve), Leah (Brad), Lucas, Bjorn (Maureen), Laurenn, and Brock; 12 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Travis, Tony, Dylan, Trent, Gunnar, Brooke, Gloria, Jeremiah, Rubin, Claire, and Faviola; and by many other relatives and friends.
