Ruth Edna Woods was born September 11, 1925 in Leola, South Dakota to Charles and Mary (Lutz) Remmers.
In 1947 she met and married Fred Koenig. Ruth Koenig helped raise two children and had two children, Gary in Minnesota and Paulette in Iowa. They then moved to the state of Oregon where she had four more children, Kandus, Lance, Robin and Dale. Ruth, husband and six children moved on to Alaska to the land of opportunity. Ruth raised her children there and also lost her husband in Alaska. Ruth re-married Fred Woods in Alaska and having raised her children, Ruth and Fred retired to Michigan to live on a small hobby farm. Ruth and Fred gardened and raised a few animals for 10 years and then moved to Minnesota to be closer to family. While living in Minnesota Ruth and Fred created many lawn ornaments and then sold them at flea markets until Fred’s death in 1996. Ruth then lived in Isanti and from there moved to Cambridge to live at Ashland Place Senior Living Apartments and then from there to GracePointe Gables West Nursing home.
Ruth was a very outgoing person. She was known for her great sense of humor and her crazy comebacks. Ruth loved to travel and visit unusual places. Ruth and her husband Fred Woods traveled each winter to several different places in the United States their children were spread out all over the US and they visited all of them as often as they could.
Ruth was also known for her fashion style. Ruth loved jewelry especially earrings. Earrings were her trademark. Ruth had literally hundreds of pairs of earrings and she always boasted that she had no two pairs alike. Ruth had earrings that were made of Moose droppings to earrings that looked like false teeth. She enjoyed wearing jewelry that made a statement and made people laugh!
One of Ruth’s favorite holidays was Halloween. When she lived at Ashland Place, she would dress up and go from apartment to apartment with a sign that said trick or treat and not say anything so that no one would know who she was! Everyone always had a good laugh!
Ruth was also a wonderful cook and baker! When her kids were older and would come home for a visit, they would often put in requests for her to make different meals for them. A couple of favorites were chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles and pigs in the blanket! There was also many cakes, pies, and desserts that came out of her kitchen.
