Hildur Magnuson, age 89, of Ham Lake died June 15, 2013 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West. The funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at our Isanti Chapel with Rev. Dan Nordin officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service on Thursday. Interment will be in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Cemetery in East Bethel.
Hildur Lenore (Johnson) Magnuson, who is one of 7 children with 2 additional ½ Sibling’s, was born in Clara City, MN on April 2, 1924 to Walter and Elizabeth ( Aeikens) Johnson of German & Swedish Nationalities. She had a very difficult beginning to her life as she was raised in an orphanage located in Owatonna, MN. After finishing school she went to live with her eldest sister, Bess Hillstrom and family, in Clara City, MN where she proudly worked at a dry cleaner, running a steam iron press and happily spent her earnings on two of her nieces, Bette Ann and Caryl Mae, whom she helped care for. At the age of 25 she met Howard Magnuson on a blind date, set up by friends. She and Howard were united in marriage on April 23rd, 1949. They began their life together living in an apartment in South St. Paul for a year. They lived later in a cottage that Howard moved from Coon Lake by tractor to the Magnuson Farm in Ham Lake, MN. They were blessed with their daughter, Beverly Ann Magnuson on May 21st, 1951. On June 14, 1952 Howard and Hildur purchased their homestead on Crosstown Blvd. in Ham Lake, MN again moving the cottage to their new homestead where they resided happily for 60 years until she was diagnosed with Dementia. She spent her last few years at Grace Pointe Crossing Gables West Nursing Home in Cambridge, MN. Hildur very much enjoyed family outings and get-togethers. Picking home-grown flowers she and Howard grew together. Going to threshing shows and traveling to Duluth. She also had a special love for Hummingbirds, Cardinals and Dalmatians. She was a fun loving, selfless and happy person that truly enjoyed her family life as a wife, mother and homemaker.
Hildur died June 15, 2013 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West in Cambridge at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 13 days. Besides her parents, Hildur was preceded in death by her brothers, Dick, John (Jack), Theodore, Francis and half-brother, William Cobliegh; sisters, Bess Hillstrom and Thelma Anderson; niece, Bette Ann Kane; nephew, John Marks.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Magnuson; daughter, Beverly Matheson; half sister, Jan Marks; grandchild, Chris (Triston) Dax; great-grandchildren, Logan, Stephanie and Robbie; nephews, Steven Johnson and Larry Johnson; nieces, Susan Johnson, Caryl Korb and Carol Anderson; many other relatives and friends.
