Edward Quam, Sr., age 76, of Cambridge and formerly of Ramsey died July 12, 2013 at GracePointe Gables West. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 16th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel with Mr. Gary Black officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Tuesday and also from 5:00 -8:00 PM Monday, July 15th also at our Isanti Chapel. Interment will be in Strike Cemetery.
Edward Allen Quam, Sr. was born September 13, 1936 in Minneapolis to Elmer and Millie (Eccles) Quam. He was raised in Sandstone and graduated from Sandstone High School. On January 13, 1967 he married Joanne Hesse and they made their first home in Columbia Heights. Ed and Joanne later moved to Brook Park and then in 1971 they moved to Ramsey where they would live for many years. Ed was a union bricklayer and then was a self- employed masonry contractor for 35 years, retiring at age 65. Ed was a member of the Worldwide Church of God in Champlin, now called Church of God – A Worldwide Association. His hobbies and interests included gardening, playing pool, exercising and living a healthful life. Ed was proud of receiving a Presidential Fitness Award from President Bush through the “Silver Sneakers Club”.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne in 2006; 2 brothers, Wilbur and Allan Quam; 3 sisters, Alice Dietrich, Pearl Holmes and Flossie Bowen. Ed is survived by 3 children, Edward (Pamela) Quam, Jr. of Mora, Peggy Ford of Eden Prairie, Martin (Teresa) Quam of Coon Rapids; step-son, Steve Quam of Wisconsin; 2 grandchildren, Zachary and Bryce Quam of Coon Rapids; 1 sister, Marie Dietrich of Anoka; and by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
