Janice “Jan” Whitehead, age 74, of Cambridge and formerly of Coon Rapids, died August 8, 2014 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 13th at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel with Rev. David Everett officiating. A time for visiting will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Morningside Memorial Gardens in Coon Rapids. Janice Leola Whitehead was born October 7, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Albert and Leona (Cook) Herrmann. She attended school in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958. On January 28, 1961 Jan was married to Harold Gene Whitehead at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They made their home in Bloomington and then raised their family in Anoka. Later they lived in Coon Rapids and very recently moved to Cambridge. Jan started her career in health care after High School, becoming a nurse’s assistant at Fairview Hospital. She later became an LPN and worked for many years caring for residents at Camellia Rose Nursing Home in Coon Rapids. Jan also provided Foster Care for many over the years. She enjoyed reading, music and playing Hand and Foot with family and friends. Jan went to be with the Lord August 8, 2014 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 1 day. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Leona Herrmann; four brothers, Buddy, Bob, Porky and Nute Herrmann; and one sister, Sis Kramer. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Gene; two sons, Gene Alan (Darcee), John (Barbara); one daughter, Gina (John) Gilmore; one brother, Babe Herrmann; two sisters, Pete Moran, Judy (Ron) Hagfors; six grandchildren, Matt, Chantel, Julie, John Mark, Hannah and Nathan; four great-grandchildren, Braxton, Isaac, Jude and Lucy; and by many other relatives and friends.
