Alf R. Vik, age 95, of Andover and formerly of East Bethel, died August 15, 2016 at the J.A. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 18th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti with Fr. Gabriel Walz as Celebrant. A time for visiting will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Alf Raymond Vik was born March 21, 1921 in Oakland Township, Mahnomen County, Minnesota to Alfred and Anna (Mortenson) Vik. He attended school in Waubun. On December 21, 1944 Alf married Alma Wolbeck in Norfolk, Virginia while he was in the Navy. Alf served his country in World War II on the U.S.S. Idaho. After his time of service they moved to Mahnomen and later moved to Blaine in 1955. In 1979 they moved to East Bethel and most recently Alf has lived with his daughter, Coral, and family in Andover.
After his service in the Navy, Alf worked as a welder. In retirement, Alf was still a hardworking man, always happiest with a project. He enjoyed the outdoors, beekeeping, gardening, hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing, and yard work. Alf and Alma were longtime members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti. Alf was a sweet and gentle man, a giving and caring person who will be dearly missed.
Alf Vik passed away August 15, 2016 at the J. A. Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 25 days. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Alma; his brothers: Melvin, Arne, and Bennie; and his sisters: Helga and Esther.
He is survived by his two daughters, Coral (Allan) Newcomb of Andover, Susan (John) Beulke of Scandia; one grandson, Jeffrey Newcomb of Andover and many other relatives and friends.
