Shirley Fixell, age 93 of Isanti died September 10, 2016 at J.A. Wedum Hospice in in Brooklyn Park. A memorial service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Long Lake Lutheran Church with Rev. Matt Flom officiating. Friends may gather 1 hour before the service on Friday at the church.
Shirley Jeanette Fixell was born September 30, 1922 in Wyanett Township, Isanti County, to Charles and Agnes (Anderson) Holmes. The family lived in Wyanett for a time, then in Springvale Township and then later in Cambridge. She attended Karmel – District 44 School and then graduated from Cambridge High School, Class of 1941. Shirley married Ted Fixell on February 28, 1947 in Cambridge Lutheran Church. They made their home in Robbinsdale for over 30 years. While in the Twin Cities she was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and she was employed by Prudential Insurance Company, in the dining room, for 22 years. When they retired they built their retirement home on German Lake in rural Isanti. Shirley was an active member of Long Lake Lutheran Church and served in many capacities over the years. Her hobbies and interests included cooking, baking and gardening.
Shirley passed away on September 10, 2016 at the J.A. Wedum Hospice in Brooklyn Park at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 11 days. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; son, Craig; sister, Katherine Anderson; and brother, Kenneth Holmes.
Shirley is survived by 2 grandchildren, Carolynn (Kent) Kiewatt, Brian (Danielle) Fixell; 4 great-grandchildren, Claire, Allison, Lucas and Emily; daughter-in-law, Sandra Fixell; and by many other relatives and friends.
