Howard Magnuson, age 91, of Ham Lake died October 17, 2016 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East in Cambridge. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 20th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the National Guard.
Howard Edwin Magnuson was born April 16, 1925 in Soderville, Minnesota to Edwin and Ida (Servin) Magnuson. He grew up and attended school in the Soderville area. Howard served his country in the US Army during WWII as an automotive mechanic TEC3 from December 1944 until he was honorably discharged November 1946. After the service he was set up on a blind date with Hildur Johnson and they were married on April 23, 1949. They made their home in Ham Lake where they lived the remainder of their lives. Howard worked as a union carpenter as a home builder. He finished his career as a finish carpenter. He enjoyed trips up to the north shore in his younger years. Howard also liked working in the yard, driving and visiting with family and friends. Howard remained living in his own home that he built with his own hands for his family. He remained independent with minor help from his nephew Charlie (Kris) when needed.
Howard passed away October 17, 2016 after a short illness at GracePointe Crossing Gables East in Cambridge at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 1 day. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Hildur; brothers, Curtis and Harold; sister-in-law, Gloria; and brother-in-law, Gene.
He is survived by his daughter, Bev (Mark) Matheson of TN; grandson Chris (Tristan) Dax of PA; great-grandchildren, Logan (Dakota), Stephanie (Jeff) and Rob (Chelsea); 5 great-great-grandchildren, Christopher, Charlie, Hunter, Garrett and Katie; sisters, Marlys (Don) Carter, Bernice (Dean) Tollefson and Lorene Ruggles; sister-in-law, Ruth; and by many other close relatives and friends.
