Jack Leonard Roddy, age 93, of Bloomington, MN, passed away on October 31, 2016 at Prelude Cottages in White Bear Lake, MN. Memorial service in celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Monday, November 7th with visitation at 9:30 am and memorial service at 10:30 at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, 2200 West Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington, followed by interment at Fort Snelling. In lieu of flowers, memorials suggested to Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, St. Croix Hospice or Prelude Homes and Services of White Bear Lake. Jack L. Roddy was born in Minneapolis on June 2, 1923. Following graduation from Robbinsdale High School in 1941, Jack attended the University of Minnesota where he earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Johnson, in March, 1945. He then completed his tour in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in May of 1946. After working as a detailer, estimator, engineer, and salesman for Paper Calmenson & Co for most of his career, he retired and later worked for LeJeune Steel and Mannstedt Steele.
Family and friends were important to Jack. He and Phyllis were blessed with three children, Roxanne, David and Jay, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Jack was genuinely interested in and supportive of each one of them.
Jack served as a volunteer in a variety of roles in Bloomington. He was a coach and served on numerous committees that centered around youth and sports programs.
As a member of Oak Grove Presbyterian church, he looked forward to his early morning weekly men’s prayer group. Over the years, he also served on a variety of church committees related to pastoral searches and building projects.
Jack and Phyllis enjoyed traveling with friends as well as taking their spring and fall fishing trips to Nestor Falls, Canada. They often celebrated their anniversary with a trip to Fort Meyers, Florida, in March.
Most importantly, Jack believed in the goodness in all people and treated everyone he met with respect, honesty and Christian love. Jack was a caring and generous person and loved his family deeply.
Jack was preceded in death by wife, Phyllis Roddy, parents Fred and Letty Roddy, brother Thomas Roddy.
He is survived by daughter Roxanne (Ken) Dean; son David (Pat) Roddy both of Cambridge, MN; son Jay (Lisa) Roddy of St. Bonifacious, MN; grandchildren Greta (John) Schimming, Karla (Dan) Mettling, Paul (Katie) Dean, Anne Hof, Kimberly (Brian) Goodmanson, Kyle (Nicole) Roddy, Christian Roddy, Noah Roddy; great-grandchildren Eli, Alec, and Evan Schimming, Justin and Joshua Mettling, Wyatt and Ivy Dean, Jack, Kate, and Ellie Goodmanson, Ethan, Owen and Kellen Roddy; and many special nieces and nephews.
