Shirley Aldora Hooker was born in Denver, CO, on June 22, 1930, to S.A. Martin and Cora Belle Freeman Martin. She was married to Kenneth Hooker on September 10, 1950, at the Christensen Ranch in Dillon, CO.
Shirley did a number of different jobs in her life, but she enjoyed being a nurse’s aide and dental assistant the most. The majority of her life was spent in Colorado. Her younger years were spent near Breckenridge, while later years were spent in Palisade and Fort Morgan. Ken and Shirley lived many other places as well, always helping friends and family when they could. Their last move in 2004 was to Isanti, MN, to the “Grandma’s Haven” house on the farm of their son-in-law and daughter, Lyle and Nancy Peterson. Shirley enjoyed sewing, quilting and cooking. She was well-known for her cinnamon rolls with her family.
Shirley went to be with Jesus on December 28, 2017, at GracePointe Crossing in Cambridge, MN. She was 87 years old. Her daughter, Nancy, had the privilege to sit at her side holding her hand and reading from the Psalms at the time of her death.
She is survived by her children: Ken Jr. (Sue) of Grand Junction, CO, Nancy (Lyle) Peterson of Isanti, MN, and Richard (Jan) of Prineville, OR; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Wanda Hooker of Palisade, CO, and many nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.
