Grace M. Hammar, age 90, of San Jose, California died December 2, 2018 at Mission Skilled Nursing in Santa Clara, California. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 8, at Strike Life Tributes in Isanti. A time for visiting will be held one hour prior to the service.
Grace Marie (Lindberg) Hammar, born in Isanti County, Minnesota, on May 3, 1928, has gone to Glory on December 2, 2018, in Santa Clara, California. She is survived by her son, Jonathan Hammar, sister, Gloria Sundstrom, brother, Warren Lindberg, son-in-law Kris Hollstrom, and granddaughters Angelique and Kristina Hollstrom, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Wendell and daughter Michelle.
After graduating Cambridge High School, Grace achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Religious Education from Northwestern College in 1954. She accepted her first teaching position in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, at Mountain Lake Bible School in September 1954. She married Wendell Hammar in August 1957 and moved to San Jose, California, where she continued her education with a Masters Degree from Santa Clara University, as well as additional classes to complete certification for special education. Grace always felt great accomplishment in being able to teach a child to read.
Grace and Wendell celebrated over 50 years of marriage until his death in 2012. They enjoyed traveling to Minnesota and weekend getaways in Reno as well as many hours of Hand and Foot with family and friends.
