Donald “Don” James Govednik, age 77, died unexpectedly of natural causes on March 17, 2021. Don was a husband, father, grandfather and man of honesty. This honesty was what he lived by each day. There was never a moment that a person would wonder what Don was thinking or when they were not able to discuss something with him for guidance or advice. Don was born on November 22, 1943 in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Mark and Tyyne (Salo) Govednik. Don married Georgia Ann Wilson in 1973 and through thick and thin they remained devotedly married until her passing in 2016.
Don was a resourceful and hard-working man that always provided for his family. Don was proud of “the cabin” that each year he worked on and added his own personal touch. His love and passion for this land was passed down to his son. He taught his son and grandsons about ruffed grouse hunting. Some favorite memories were of telling stories to the youngest grandchildren about earlier times at the cabin. Grouse opener was always an event that was never to be missed; it was his constant. Many times a story would start with do you remember the time grouse hunting when…
Don is survived by his son, James (Sonja) Govednik; daughters, Christine (Curt) Galloup, Sue Anderson, Renee (Bill) Galvin, Vickie (Thomas) Stotler-Smith and Kristi Govednik; grandchildren, Abbie, Owen, Josh, Kyle, Heather, Matthew, Amanda, Jacob, Stephanie and Jessica; and several great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Ann; grandson, Zachary; granddaughter, Sarah; sons, Dennis and Stephen; brothers, Peter, Mark and Glenn; as well his parents, Mark and Tyyne.
Don’s wisdom and honest advice will be missed.
