Elizabeth J Weaver born August 5, 1940, Passed away August 8, 2024
Betty grew up in rural Chisago County Minnesota and moved often growing up, as her father found work on different farms. She moved to Minneapolis by the time she was a teenager, and then on November 5, 1960, she married the love of her life, Vern Weaver at Zion Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They were married 50 years when Vern passed away in 2011. They had 4 children. Angela (Mike), David, James (Renee), Charles (Tara). Betty is survived by their children, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Alveda Widell, her brothers Hilmer and Donald, and her sister Jeanette. She was the last of her generation.
Betty served as an administrative secretary at Central Lutheran Church and other ministries when they lived in Elk River. More important to her than her work, Betty loved books and reading, and she wrote as well, completing a novel and a devotional book. She loved crafts like embroidery, crocheting, and especially quilting. Betty had a special love for making and donating baby quilts. That love continued even past her ability to make them, but she still tried. Making baby quilts and donating them was a life dream fulfilled for her.
Betty was very grateful as well, thankful in many ways even in hard times showing her steadfast faith. She was always thinking of and making sure others were ok. When you wanted to help with something you had to choose your words carefully because if you just asked if she needed anything, she would just say, “oh no I’m fine”. She never wanted anyone to go out of their way for her. Betty was very gracious and never wanted to be a burden on anyone. She had the heart of a servant, and it was hard for her in later years when she physically could not serve others so well and she still wanted to.
Betty was devoted to her family, and she prayed for them her whole life. We found out when reading some of her prayer journals that she had prayed for all of us in so many ways and so many details, even the small things. She prayed for our health, our relationships, our travel and our pets. It was also moving to see how she journaled prayer answers. She wrote that many times the answers to prayers are YES, sometimes NO, and sometimes the answer is WAIT. Even the NO answers had comments that showed her faith and how she heard from God. And she was thankful for so many things. Pages and pages of prayers. She was so connected, and she heard from God often.
And again, so many times she was praying for safe travels for anyone she knew that was travelling, whether it was just the drive home or something longer. It seems she prayed every time one of us got in a car. It was really amazing and moving to read how she prayed for us.
Safe travels everyone!
