Anna Petruniak Fuhol was born on April 1, 1925, in Poland to Nickoli and Nastacia Petruniak. During World War II, she endured unimaginable hardship while being placed in a German labor camp, where she worked on a farm.
Following the war, Anna met Wladimier Fuhol in a refugee camp in Austria. The two were married on June 29, 1949. While living in the camp, they welcomed two children. Eventually, the family was sponsored by a church in Crookston, Minnesota, and immigrated to the United States. They later settled on a farm east of Cambridge, Minnesota, which became the heart of the family’s life.
On the farm, Anna and her husband, Wally, raised eight children. While Wally commuted to the city for work, Anna ran the household and managed the farm. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Anna also became a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti.
Anna was known for her extraordinary garden, overflowing with flowers and produce. Her many talents included crocheting, canning, and above all, nurturing her family with unconditional love, warmth, and generosity. Family gatherings were often filled not only with her children and grandchildren, but also with friends and neighbors—a testament to Anna’s open heart and caring spirit.
Anna passed away peacefully at the age of 100 on April 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the farm she called home for the past 64 years. Anna was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wladimier Fuhol; her son, Steven Fuhol; son-in-law Tony Simone, and three grandchildren and one great grand child.
She is survived by her seven children: Maria Simone of St. Petersburg, Florida; Wladimir (Tammy) Fuhol, Jr. of Stanchfield; Eda Fuhol of Cambridge; Jim Fuhol of Cambridge; Larry Fuhol of Isanti; Nick (Joy) Fuhol of Cambridge; and Don Fuhol of Cambridge. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many dear friends.
You have touched so many lives in your 100 years here on earth. Your love and memories will live on. One of mine will be the precious smile you got when your great granddaughter Ariah brought you a bouquet of flowers for your birthday last week and how you enjoyed the twins and Kyson that day. May you be dancing along the streets of gold.
Anna, my heart breaks for your family, I know how much you were loved! A person with such beautiful eyes and a lovely smile like you have must have grown a beautiful garden too!
I may not be grandma Anna‘s biological granddaughter, but she is the one I have known for 40 some years and she has been the best grandma ever just always loving and welcoming. I know grandma and grandpa are reuniting right now and watching over each and every one of us may God continue to provide each and everyone of you with strength and peace as we celebrate Grandma.
We heard so much about grandma Fuhol from Joyous and Nick. Thinking about the family and lifting you all up as you mourn and celebrate this great lady and wonderful woman who touched so many lives. Praying for all of you for comfort and peace.
Carolyn and Lee Ackerman We can never explain how much Anna will be missed. We are neighbors for more than 53 years and loved Anna so very much. She and her family were the best neighbors one could have. We are so fortunate to have known her and hear her life stories. Believe me they gave me a new outlook on my own life. I cherish every time I had spent with her…our hearts are breaking for the family’s loss.
