Richard “Dick” Flanagan, age 77, of Cambridge passed away August 21, 2007 at his home. A Memorial Mass will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, August 24th at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cambridge with Father James David Hahn as Celebrant. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 23rd with a Rosary at 7 PM at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel. There will also be a time for visiting 1 hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Interment will be in Christ the King Catholic Cemetery.
Richard Earl Flanagan was born February 2, 1930 at St. Paul, Minnesota to Frank and Lillian (Bredahl) Flanagan. He was raised in St. Paul and graduated from Johnson High School in 1947. Dick then served his country in the U.S. Army. On New Year’s Day, 1951 Dick met Evelyn “Evie” Weger and they were married June 30th of that year at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sioux St. Marie, Michigan. They made their home in St. Paul until 1956 when they moved to Roseville. Dick worked as a police officer in Roseville for 14 years. In 1973 they purchased Isanti Estates and they have lived in Cambridge for the past 19 years. In his retirement years Dick worked at Isanti Hardware Hank. His favorite hobbies were hunting and fishing. Dick was a member of Howard McCarty American Legion Post #290 of Cambridge and he was also a charter member Christ the King Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council #12813.
Richard “Dick” Flanagan passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at his home at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 19 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillian, by his son, Charles, and by a brother-in-law, Richard Schurmeier.
Dick will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Evie of Cambridge; two sons, Patrick (Terri) Flanagan of Isanti, Kenneth Flanagan of Minneapolis; one daughter, Maureen Flanagan of St. Cloud; three brothers, Gerald (Dolores) Flanagan of Maplewood, Ronald (Bev) Flanagan of New Brighton, Francis “Bud” (Doris) Flanagan of St. Paul; one sister, Patricia Schurmeier of St. Paul; 15 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and by many other relatives and friends.
