Joyce Lorraine Kubatzke, age 86, of Cambridge passed away September 11, 2007 at Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 14th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel with Rev. Norman Norland officiating. A time for visiting will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Strike Cemetery in Bradford Township.
Joyce Lorraine Kubatzke was born January 8, 1921 at Virginia, Minnesota to Carl and Ann (Miller) Olson. Joyce was raised in several foster homes in the Virginia area and she graduated from Buhl High School in 1939. In May of 1939 she married Stanley J. Petroskey. They made their home in Virginia where they raised their three children, Stanley, Karla and Kathy. Joyce worked as a dietary supervisor, restaurant owner, pastry chef and chef over the years.
In September of 1969 Joyce married Chris Kubatzke in Freeport, Illinois. They made their home in the Freeport area until Chris passed away in December of 1993. In 1994 Joyce moved to Brooklyn Park, Minnesota to live with her daughter, Karla. Joyce was the Brooklyn Park Senior Queen and she enjoyed participating in several parades in that roll. After a surgery in 2003 Joyce needed additional medical care and for the last few years she has resided at Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge.
Joyce absolutely loved fishing and she also had a passion for baking. She made the world’s best fudge and her grandchildren especially loved it as well as all her other specialties. Joyce also enjoyed playing bingo.
Joyce is survived by her son; Stanley C. Petroskey and his wife Antoinette of Soudan, Minnesota; two daughters, Karla A. Chopp of Isanti, Kathy J. Otto and her husband Richard of Cambridge; 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and by other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ann Olson, by her husband, Christopher, and by two brothers, Carl Olson Jr. and William Jack Kirby.
