Joan M. Soland, age 75, of Fridley passed away October 2, 2007 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 6th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel with Rev. Howard Skulstad officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, October 5th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel and also 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be in Fridsborg Cemetery.
Joan Marie Soland was born March 10, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Arthur and Emma (Hedin) Ginder. She was raised and attended country school in Weber and Oxford Township in Isanti County. Joan was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Weber. She graduated with the class of 1951 from Cambridge High School and later that year she moved to Minneapolis. In 1955 Joan was united in marriage to Murle Soland. They lived in Minneapolis until 1970 when they made their home in Weber. In 1979 they moved to Fridley where they have lived ever since.
Joan was employed at American Express (IDS) in Minneapolis for 41 years, retiring in April of 1994. Joan was a life time member of the Isanti VFW Auxiliary where she was very involved throughout the years. She was also a member of the Cambridge American Legion Auxiliary and of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Columbia Heights. Joan also volunteered providing snacks and treats for meals on wheels and she also loved helping with bingo at a nursing home. She also enjoyed gardening and outdoor work.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Murle; two daughters, Marie (Michael) Luck of Stacy, Carol (Tom) Thorsen of Fridley; six grandchildren, Christina (Edward) Grimm of Isanti, Karen (Karl) Nyquist of Isanti, William Luck of Stacy, Laurie Todora of Orlando, Florida, Erick Thorsen of Oakland, California, and Bobby Thorsen of Fridley; six great-grandchildren, Kurtis and Kaylee Grimm, Cody, Zachary and Emily Nyquist, and Genny Owens; by many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Emma Ginder, by one brother, Donald Ginder, and by one sister, Judy Bartelt.
Our deepest sympathies to all of you. Joan was such a great woman. She was so caring and thoughtful, always doing for others. Terry has very fond memories of family outings that his family and yours shared. I’m sure you are taking comfort in knowing she is not suffering anymore. Love to you all.

Joan always was so very special and kind plus always friendly no matter the situation. We enjoyed the holiday dinners she strived to put on and was always thoughful of us and our children. She will be sadly missed and she will continue to be with us in our thoughts and memories forever.
