Wesley C. Groslie, age 84, of Fridley passed away Friday, September 12, 2008 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 17th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti. A visiation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 16th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel. A visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be in Stanford Cemetery.
Wesley Cyrus Leo Groslie was born December 11, 1923 in Twin Valley, Minnesota to Wilhelm and Ida (Bentley) Groslie. His family moved to Thief River Falls where he was raised and attended Lincoln High School. On October 27, 1942 he married Cleo Mae Engelstad. Wes then entered the Army for 3 years and served as a soldier in the Big Red 1 division during World War II and fought in the first wave of the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. After his military service they made their home in Thief River Falls. Wes owned and operated businesses in Thief River Falls, then Minot, North Dakota and then in Bagley. He later managed Summit House Apartments in Minneapolis. In 1980 he retired and they moved to Long Lake in rural Isanti. In 1986 he moved to his home in Fridley where he lived until his death. Wes enjoyed woodworking and doing anything mechanical. He also enjoyed music and he played several instruments, including guitar, harmonica, accordion and piano. His musical talent warmed our hearts, his humor gave us laughter, and his handiness helped us through life. He will be greatly missed and remembered with love.
Wes passed away at his home on September 12, 2008 at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 1 day. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo Mae; son, Lesley and daughter, Cindy. He is survived by 2 sons, William (Saundra) Groslie and Daniel (Marilyn) Groslie; 1 daughter, Rebecca Kilzer; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; loving friend, Judith Schnarr; and many other relatives and friends.
