Meyers L. Peterson, age 85, of Cambridge passed away peacefully September 2, 2009 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, September 4th at Cambridge Lutheran Church with Pastor Andy Romstad officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery.
Meyers was born to Manny and Annie Peterson in East Cambridge on February 19, 1924. He was united in marriage with Daphne Bodenner on June 24th, 1947 at the Cambridge Lutheran Church with Rev Harold Peterson officiating.
Born to this union were four children; Connie (Terry) Kassa, Larry (Sandy) Peterson, Carla Peterson (Tammy) and Carol (Kevin) Scott. Twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren were born to their families. Meyers was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harley Peterson and his wife Florette.
Meyers was a graduate of Cambridge High School where he lettered in basketball and track. He later pitched softball for a number of teams. Meyers was a graduate of St. Cloud State University earning his B.S. and M.S. degrees in education. He was a two year letter winner in track.
Meyers and Daphne taught together at New London and then Minneapolis Southwest High School. He taught biology and coached football, track and softball. Meyers was also the Southwest HS Athletic Director for 22 years.
Meyers officiated high school and college football and basketball for 25 years through out the five state area.
He was a member of the St. Cloud State University alumni board for 15 years serving as president of the board for six years. He was also recognized as a WCCO Good Neighbor.
Meyers and Daphne retired to the farm in Cambridge in 1987. During their 62 years together they enjoyed travel to many interesting world destinations, bird watching, attending Minnesota sporting events and time with family and friends.

My condolence to the family. Meyers was an awesome person. I remember going to breakfast with Meyers and all of the coaches from high school. He was such a great conversationalist, always made people feel really welcome. Meyers you will be missed.
