Craig Mertz, age 52, of Isanti died November 28, 2009 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 5th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral at the church.
Craig Douglas Mertz, the 5th child of Clarence and Louise Mertz, was born on February 14, 1957 in Minneapolis. The family lived in North Minneapolis, later moving to Mounds View. Craig attended North High School. He served in the Marine Corps. Craig worked in a number of occupations throughout his lifetime, including auto mechanic, printer and tool adjuster in an ammunitions plant. Craig met Annie through a friend. He finally proposed to Annie, traveled to the Philippines to see her, married her on November 27, 1998 in Cebu, Philippines, and had to wait a year for her to get permission to enter the United States. Annie changed Craig’s life from OK to Great. They made their home in Fridley and moved to Isanti in September of 2001. Craig loved life and his family. He enjoyed his Corvette and entered it in auto shows. Craig was a member of Knights of Columbus #10238 at St. Elizabeth’s. He enjoyed target shooting, car shows, scuba diving, sudoku and word puzzles.
Craig passed away November 28, 2009 at his home after a battle with cancer at the age of 52 years, 9 months and 14 days.
Craig is survived by his wife, Annie of Isanti; 3 sons, Joshua of Moose Lake, Matthew of Brooklyn Park, Aaron of Isanti; his mother, Louise of Coon Rapids; 3 brothers, Gary (Sandy) of Coon Rapids, Noel (Diane) of St. Louis, Missouri, Wayne of Minneapolis; 1 sister, Cheryl (Joe) Vogel of St. Francis; and many other relatives and friends.
