Violet M. Cassman, age 74, of Stanchfield died March 19, 2011 at St. Cloud Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 26th at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel with Rev. Bill Steinke officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in Rice Lake Cemetery in Braham.
Violet Mildred Cassman was born April 11, 1936 in Roseau. She grew up in northern Minnesota where she attended school through the 10th grade. Her family then moved to St. Paul for a short time. Violet married Pete Cassman in 1957 and settled down in Stanchfield. She worked in Cambridge at Control Data and then at Land O Lakes in Dalbo as a boiler operator. Violet and Pete also ran their farm and when the machinery broke down she was the mechanic. After Pete’s death in 1987 she spent a lot of time camping and fishing with the grandkids. In the winter months she would take a couple of the kids and head up to Mille Lacs Lake to her fish house for days. In May of 2010 Violet was diagnosed with lung cancer while on vacation in Montana.
Violet Cassman died peacefully with her family at her side on March 19, 2011 in St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 8 days. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by 1 son, Christopher Knutson; her husband, Peter; and 1 brother, Joey Brottem.
Violet is survived by 3 children, David Knutson of Washington, Shirley Ziesmer of Minnesota, Donald (Judy) Cassman of Stanchfield; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Ernie Brottem of Zimm; sister, Ruby LeMay of Washington; and by many other relatives and friends.

So sorry to hear about Violet. I got to know her at the Dusty and had a lot of nice chats.She never complained about a thing. And she just lived for those grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which she adored. We will all miss her.
