Ronald Otterness, age 72, of Cedar died April 1, 2011 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, April 7th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Oak Grove with Father David Blume as Celebrant. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday at the church and also from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 6th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Ronald Earling Otterness was born February 15, 1939 in Willmar to Earl and Margaret Otterness. Ronald was raised in Minneapolis. On November 17, 1956 he married Sandra Williams. Ronald served in the Marine Corps from 1956 1958. After his military service they moved to Cedar where they have since made their home. Ron was employed in the railroad industry and was a UTU Union member for 50 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Oak Grove. Among his interests were working with wood and building projects.
Ronald Otterness died April 1, 2011 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 72 years, one month and 17 days. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Sandy; seven children, Ronald Otterness, Gregory Otterness, Deborah (Ernest) Mortensen, Laurie (Edward) Yanta, Robert (Cheryl) Otterness, Michael (Tammy) Otterness, Susan (Delroy) Gehrke; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters; two brothers; and by many other relatives and friends.
