Gordon Francis Wyatt was born June 10, 1929 in Bethel, Minnesota to Archie Sr. and Jessie (Wicklander) Wyatt. He attended grade school in a rural school at Coopers Corner. School was a very boring place and he was anxious to get out and begin working. He drove trucks for several different companies and worked as a mechanic at the Ford Garage in Cambridge. In 1947 he began working with his brothers, Willis and Erle in Spring Lake Park where they started a gas and service station. In 1949 he became a partner with them. They started Wyatt Bros Ready Mix Concrete Co. in 1952. He especially enjoyed working with the mechanical part of the company.
Gordy designed ready-mix trucks with hydraulic lift axels and one with two front steering axels. The first of its kind! He was written up in several concrete magazines as to his working designs and fuel saving ideas. He always worked the late hours to see that the trucks were in and repaired and fueled for the next day. The brothers believed in good service to the customer!
They worked hard and also played hard. The brothers had boats, airplanes and motor homes together and always got along. In later years Gordy and Betty had several different airplanes and motor homes to enjoy along with motorcycling, ATV’s and snowmobiles. Snowmobiling in the West Yellowstone area was a yearly vacation in February that they enjoyed for 40 years. The Monaco Motor Coach Club became like an extended family to them as they enjoyed going to rallies and traveling together for 18 years.
Gordy and Betty were married in 1954 and enjoyed 57 ½ years together. They never had children but got to enjoy the nieces and nephews and their families. They helped start a Baptist church in Circle Pines in 1956 and served there until they moved to Isanti in 1971. Elim Baptist Church has been their home church since.
Gordy lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, April 19th and went to be home with his Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Sr. and Jessie Wyatt; sister, Jane Sanders; brothers, Leigh, Willis and Erle; and brothers-in-law, George Johnson and Arthur Sanders.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Betty; brother, Archie (JoAnn) Wyatt Jr. of Bethel; sister, Mary Hershaw of Mounds View; sisters-in-law, Minnie, Margaret, and Myrtice Wyatt, Myrna Johnson, Dorothy (Sam) Danca, Shirley (Vernon) Lindberg and Janice Johnson; brother-in-law, John (Frances) Johnson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The staff at the Creamery Crossing will miss Gordy very much as you will. He was a kind man to all of us at the restaurant. We will miss him coming in for his coffee and of course miss it very much when you came in as a couple. The hearts at the Creamery will feel a bit emptier now without Gordy. We know that you two had many great times together and those will always be treasured.

There is no way words can completely express our sorrow at Gordy’s passing. To Betty and all the family, we convey our deepest sympathy. He was such a nice man and will be deeply missed. As they say, he made a “difference” in this world. We certainly will miss seeing him & Betty at the Rustic every Friday night. Such a loss to us all.
Take care.

I was neighbors to Gordy, and my dad knew him best, perhaps, but I always had fond memories of Gordy whenever we would run into them. I remember one time as a young teenager being invited to Mr. Wyatt’s RV to watch a video tape of some guy driving a snowmobile around on a lake in the summer (yeah, crazy I know). I also remember him driving his HUGE snow blower down our driveway, the one year that the plows couldn’t handle.
I didn’t know he was struggling with cancer. :( But I am definitely looking forward to eternity in heaven, and perhaps I can spend more time with Gordy then! Until then, you will be missed.
