Roy Bakalyar, age 70, of Isanti died February 28, 2013 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Isanti with Father Jose officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, March 4th from 4 – 8 P.M. at the Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel and also 1 hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Roy Daniel Bakalyar was born April 12, 1942 in Lakefield, Minnesota to Evelyn and Daniel Bakalyar I. He was raised in the Windom-Jackson area and graduated from Jackson High School, Class of 1960. He then served in the Navy for 4 years. After his military service he lived in Minneapolis. On August 26, 1967 he married Carol Herbst and they made their first home in Minneapolis. They later lived in Jackson and then Le Mars, Iowa. They moved from Iowa to Isanti in 2002. Roy also served 18 years in the Army National Guard. Roy was a member of the Isanti VFW Post and served as Sr. Vice Commander and was also in the Color Guard and Honor Guard. Roy drove school bus for Cambridge-Isanti until just a couple of weeks ago. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. In younger years he enjoyed racing cars and still loved NASCAR.
Roy died February 28, 2013 at Fairview-Southdale Hospital in Edina at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 16 days. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by 1 brother, Gary; 1 sister-in-law, Eileen Bakalyar.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Isanti; 3 children, Tammy (Steve) Baloun of Monticello, Kimberly (Mike) De Mars of Zimmerman, Daniel Bakalyar II of Minneapolis; 5 grandchildren, Mikayla, Matthew, Zack, Gabrielle and Jackson; 1 brother, Vern (Judy) Bakalyar of Cerritos, California; and by many other relatives and friends.
