Bonnie Gruber, age 65, of Cambridge died March 17, 2013 at Cambridge Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, March 21st at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel with Rev. Don Genereux officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 20th also at our Cambridge Chapel.
Bonnie Gruber embarked on her life exploration from Montevideo, MN on February 4th, 1948. That journey concluded and a new passage began on March 17, 2013 in Cambridge, MN.
“Go in peace…the journey on which you go is under the eye of the Lord.” Judge 18:6 (English Standard Version)
Bonnie searched for new paths to explore. Her youthful spirit, smile and giggle accompanied her down unfamiliar yet exciting roads. Her journeys inspired her love to explore state parks, hiking, and travelling with Paul and at least one Chihuahua at her side.
Bonnie shared her love of exploration through her teaching and tutoring, as she inspired students to explore their own new paths.
And, now a Bonnie begins a new journey, exploring a new path filled with light, love and joy. And, the path she now explores will take her farther and farther away from her pain, her suffering and her illness, until it is a speck of a memory. The path ahead of her is far brighter, with infinite curiosities to explore, than the one behind her.
Bonnie’s exploration here will be continued by her husband Paul Gruber; children Andrea (Tony) Alferness and Patrick (Karen) Gruber; sister, Carol Sandberg and her grandson Alex Johnson. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Welcoming Bonnie into her new journey are her parents Lawrence and Cora Hendrickson.
Bonnie’s family have an appreciation of flowers, but suggest that a donation to the American Cancer Society in her name would better honor her life, her journey and her courage.

I worked with Bonnie for many years at Anoka Technical College. I was the receiver of many of her hugs daily, which enriched and encouraged me.
Bonnie was very passionate about her students learning and working out a way to acheive it by doing whatever was necessary.
Bonnie was one of God’s angels on earth and she will be welcomed with open arms in heaven.
May God Be with you through this difficult time.

Dear Paul and family, I am sorry for your loss, yet happy that such a wonderful woman shared her life with you. I worked in the college and had occassional contact with Bonnie. When I think of Bonnie, I remember her as in the above photo. She was ALWAYS smiling and often, a giggle and an expressive twinkle of an eye accompanied her conversation. Students loved working with her. She came into our class once, along with her coworker, to demonstrate how NOT to dress and act during a job interview. We had tears coming out of our eyes, we were laughing so hard. It was a refreshing, engaging presentation. May you be comforted by her loving spirit, which even now, may bring you peace. ~~Gwen M.

I had the privilege of working with Bonnie for ten years. She was a supportive colleague who loved our students. Because of her efforts instituting College Success seminars, students became aware of support services right away. Without her tutoring and caring, many students would not have succeeded. She made a huge contribution to all of the lives she touched.
I learned about Prescott from Bonnie. “It’s dog-ville,” she told me, “and, if it snows you just wait an hour or two and it melts.” Mana from heaven to Minnesotan ears. I feel profound sorrow that she never got the opportunity to show me trails that she had discovered there. It would have been so wonderful to have had the opportunity to continue our friendship in Arizona. I will think of her with love when I walk my dog Frits around the town square.
I am sorry that I won’t be able to attend her service in person but will be present in spirit. Love, laughter and learning is what sustains us. Bonnie experienced all three in spades.
