Joan Streit, age 88, of St. Louis Park, formerly of Isanti, died June 13, 2013 at home. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, June 18th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel with Father James David Hahn officiating. A time for gathering will be held one hour prior to the service.
Joan Arlene Streit was born January 25, 1925 in Milaca, Minnesota to Sidney and Susie (Wahl) Peterson. Joan was a consummate wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She knew her legacy was her family and she was very proud of everyone. She worked nearly 20 years at the Cambridge Regional Center. She had a no nonsense approach to life, was direct and always to the point. She used humor, wit, tireless energy and a spring in her step to get through the day.
She liked to go and watch the John Beargrease Sleddog Races with good friends. She was her husband’s faithful fishing companion. She enjoyed yoga classes for the physical, mental and social aspects. She also liked meeting with friends and taking walks in the fresh morning air. Joan especially liked the many family get togethers. Her cream corn and glorified rice dishes were always a hit! She valued family history and put together four books. The history books documented each side of the family, to be passed along to future generations. In the past two years she did research to find the graves of her two sisters that died in their youth. She had grave stones made and placed at each site- a fitting tribute to sisters that died before she was born. This clearly demonstrated her commitment to family. She set a fine example, showing how hard work, kindness and caring for others, honesty and loving each other is important. Joan will be missed but her memory will always be present.
Joan Streit passed away in her sleep June 13, 2013 at home at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 19 days. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald August Streit; daughter, Donna Jean (Streit) Day; grandson: Elliott Rew Streit; sisters, Yvonne, Loretta and Hortense; and by her brother, Loren.
Joan is survived by her sons; Dave (Charlotte), Douglas (Cheryl), and Timothy; grandchildren, Courtney (Charles) McGuire, Ashlee (Jed) Regan, Jamison Streit, Al Day, and Keith (Alexis) Day; great-granddaughters, Cassandra, Shania, Keira, and Celina; and by other relatives and friends.
Pete & Jean Peterson says
We send our condolences to her sons and their families and the family of her deceased daughter on the loss of Aunt Joan. She was a delightful person. Last summer while we were visiting she took the lead, filling us in on family history and special memories that hold the family together. Her energy and wonderful spirit were amazing and she will be sorely missed.
