Irmgard Welsand, age 79, of St. Francis, died January 9, 2015 at Ecumen, Villages of North Branch. The funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. on Thursday, January 15th at our Isanti Chapel with Pastor Margaret Young officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 P.M. on Wednesday, January 14th at our Isanti Chapel.
Irmgard Herta Welsand was born March 3, 1935 in Stettin, Germany to Albert and Herta (Zickermann) Zaudtke. They went through World War II and when she was 16 years old the family came to the United States on a Navy ship through Staten Island. The family settled in Columbia Heights and Irmgard first worked at Swedish Hospital. Irmgard married Dale Welsand in 1964 in Columbia Heights. Irmgard worked for Brinkton Pool Table where she started her career of spray painting. She was an industrial spray painter for 30 years. She retired from Gage, Inc. in New Hope, formerly known as Lakeside Manufacturing. The family moved to St. Francis in 1978.
Irmgard loved horses and she was a member of Double Bit Saddle Club in St. Francis. She was involved with horse shows with her children for over 10 years and they won many ribbons and awards. She enjoyed traveling, going to Walmart, auctions and listening to Elvis. Irmgard was also a Minnesota Twins fan and season ticket holder. She loved the family activities and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her shining stars.
Irmgard Welsand, beloved and loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and friend, died January 9, 2015 at Ecumen of North Branch at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 6 days.
Irmgard was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Herta Zaudtke, and her sister, Ericka. She is survived by her husband, Dale; three daughters, Monika (Dale) Lintner, Patricia Peterson, Sandra (Damon) Raze; one brother, Manfred Zaudtke; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and by many other relatives and friends.
