Leland E. Gunderson, age 90, of Cambridge passed away December 4, 2015 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 10th at Strike Funeral Home-Cambridge Chapel with Rev. Howard Skulstad officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Cambridge American Legion. Interment will be in Epiphany Cemetery in Coon Rapids. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Leland E. Gunderson was born January 12, 1925 to Clarence and Flossie (Bulson) Gunderson in rural Twin Valley, MN. He graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1942 and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 – 1946 and was stationed in Japan. After being discharged he worked on the railroad in Ada, MN.
In 1950 Leland was united in marriage to Phyllis Hovde at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. They moved to Faith, MN where he worked for the Faith Flour Mill for 16 years. He moved his family to Minneapolis, residing in Brooklyn Center, where he was employed by Gresen Manufacturing. He retired in 1989. They moved to a hobby farm in Bethel, MN, where he enjoyed gardening and wood cutting. While living there they spent 11 winters in Arizona, which he thoroughly enjoyed. From there they moved to Cambridge where they lived until his passing. Leland was a lifetime member of the Cambridge American Legion.
Leland passed away quietly Friday, December 4, 2015 after a brief illness at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 22 days. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Gunderson; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Bertek; and brothers, Carroll Gunderson and Mearl Gunderson.
Leland is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Phyllis; sons, Mike (Cyndy) Gunderson, Dan (Nancy) Gunderson, Bryon (Renee) Gunderson; granddaughter, Katie (Mike) Tubman; great-grandchildren, Ella and Jacob; 2 step-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Don (Helen) Gunderson; sister, LaVonne (Daryl) Miller; and other relatives and friends.

My dad and Leland were cousins and friends so our families would occasionally get together. I have very fond memories of Leland from my childhood. My condolences to Phyllis and family.
