Norma Hazelton, age 91, of Coon Rapids died January 19, 2016 at Lynwood Golden Living Center in Fridley. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in East Bethel. A visiting time will be 1 hour prior to the service at church.
Norma Hazelton was born on March 3, 1924 to parents Arthur and Alma (Olson) Anderson on a small farm near Gonvick, MN. Norma passed away peacefully on January 19, 2016 at the Lynwood Nursing Home in Fridley, MN. Norma attended Lincoln Country School grades 1-8 and graduated from Fosston High School in 1942. During WWII, she worked for the DM and IR Railroad in Proctor, MN and the Willamette Ship Yards in Portland, OR. She continued her education at Duluth State College and Bemidji State Teacher’s College and taught country school for 3 years.
In 1947, she married Aloys (Bud) Hazelton at Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she had been baptized and confirmed. Together they had 3 children, a daughter Janis Dolinich and two sons Dennis and Scott. They made their home in Circle Pines, MN until 1960 when they moved to a small farm in Cedar, MN. Bud worked for FMC and Norma worked for the Centennial School District for 32 years.
Bud passed away in 1990 and Norma continued to live at their farm until 1997 when she moved to Fosston, MN and married Chester Lee where they lived on his farm. Chester passed away in 2003.
Norma loved music; she was always able to find a church choir to join and was the Junior Choir Director at Our Saviors Lutheran Church for many years. She assisted with music and programs for Sunday school. She was president of the Gonvick WELCA for several years and secretary of the church council at the Samhold Church in Gonvick. Norma spent her last years as part of the Golden Tones senior choir in Coon Rapids where she enjoyed giving “gigs” and writing skits and music programs.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidering and gardening. She loved to play cards and spend time with her friends in a weekly card game at the Dublin Park Apartments in Coon Rapids where she lived. Norma loved to laugh and tell funny stories and share her quick wit. She especially enjoyed any time she was able to spend time with her family.
Preceded in death by her parents, a sister Adeline Bejold, Brother Lloyd, one grandchild Annette Smith, her two husbands Bud and Chester, and her son-in-law Jeff Dolinich.
Norma is survived by, Janis, Dennis (Rox Ann), Scott, step daughters Karen (Greg) Johnson, and June (Lonnie) Calhoon. Grandchildren: Stephany, Heidi (Marty), Jon, Joe, Mike, Nicole, Mike (Denise), Mitch (Ashley), Matt (Sarah), Luke (Casey), and Jeremy. Great Grandchildren: Shelby, Alex, Megan, Nicholas, Cohen, Finn, Schaen, Aria, and Allison. Many cousins and countless friends.
