Joel R. Nelson, age 39, of Richfield died March 22, 2016 at North Memorial Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 28th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel with Rev. Brenda Wicklund officiating. A time for visiting will be held one hour prior to the service.
Joel Roger Nelson was born in Cambridge on March 27, 1976 to Roger and Verla (Mettling) Nelson. He was raised and attended school in the Cambridge-Isanti Community. He was now living in Richfield. Joel was employed as a heavy equipment operator for North Valley Construction Company. He loved his boys and going fishing. Joel also loved sports, especially basketball, and listening to music.
Joel died unexpectedly on March 22, 2016 at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale at the age of 39 years, 11 months and 25 days. He is survived by his sons, Larmey, Jeremiah and Noah Nelson and former wife Amy all of Florida; mother, Verla Nelson of Cambridge; father, Roger Nelson of Stacy; sisters, Renae Carpenter of Cambridge, Jeanna Thompson of Harvey, North Dakota, Lisa (Jade) West of Cushing, Wisconsin; step-sisters, Holly (Eric Berg) Olson of Braham, Lisa (Scott) Johnson of Isanti; grandmother, Fern Mettling of Hinckley; and by many other relatives and friends.

Many fond memories with Joel. I’ll never forget the nights spent goofing off, playing cards, the nights working at Longview together, shooting guns at his dad’s place… the list goes on. Very sorry to hear about all of this, and my condolences to his family and all the people he touched. There were a lot of them.
