Donald Wayne Shelton, age 69, of Grandy died May 1, 2016 at Prairie Senior Cottages in Isanti. He was surrounded by family and comforted by his caregivers. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 5th at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel. A time for visiting will be held one hour prior to the service.
Donald Wayne Shelton was born April 6, 1947 in Kingsport, Tennessee to Robert and Roxie (Greear) Shelton. When Don was 6 years old their family moved to North Hollywood, California where he was raised and attended school. After finishing school, Don then served his country in the US Army. He served his time in Korea, Okinawa, and in Isanti, Minnesota. It was while he was stationed in Minnesota, that Don met Jane Zimmerman. On December 13, 1969 he was united in marriage to Jane. They made their family home in Grandy where they would raise their three children. Don worked as an assemblyman at Onan Co. in Fridley for 44 years. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, his electronics, movies and music, but most of all he loved serving the Lord.
Don will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jane; three children, JoAnn (Jason) Wida, Jonathan Shelton (Lisa), and Jennifer Shelton; three grandchildren Caleb, Bailey and Wyatt; two brothers, Frederick (Robin) Greear, and Robert M. Shelton; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Henry E. Shelton; and one sister, Delma E. Smith.

Don and i started at Onan back in Sept 11 1972 on second shift, he became my best friend and confidant. Don helped get me thru some hard times and showed me the way to the lord, My heart goes out to the family. We will Miss you my friend we will miss you very Much, I know the lord was waiting for you and greeted you with a big smile and welcomed you with open arms Praise the Lord for you and all the hearts you touch over your life time, I know you changed a many hearts and minds for the good

Don has been in my life for so many years. He left me with the gift of his laughter. not many people laugh out loud when they feel joy. Don did and it still is in my memory. His faith I am sure will carry him on into his life with the Lord. he did not question living for the lord he just did it. Rest in peace my brother you will be missed. Today will be hard but we will remember you are where you are at peace you left to soon he ended your struggle.
