My thoughts and prayers to John’s family, especially his beautiful wife, LaVerne. I met John and Laverne when they moved next door in 2008 and enjoyed being neighbors. John and LaVerne were always side by side doing yard work, taking walks, and venturing on trips together. John was always fixing things and tinkering on his boat or his old red camper/truck, which ironically had simply met it’s end a few days before John went into Abbott. John loved visiting and often wanted to help me with cutting wood, fixing my lawnmower, snowplowing my driveway. He had a great sense of humor and a great attitude regarding life….always active….he truly loved his family and I will miss him greatly as my neighbor and friend. I am sorry he was suffering pain and infection and that I did not have an opportunity to say good-bye and share some wise words together. Reflect on those 89 years of living and memories created together……you have journeyed home now, John, you will continue to be loved and missed but we also celebrate your life that you lived so well….blessings to you, LaVerne, Colleen, Kathy, Tim, and all….. Rhonda

Uncle John was such a wonderful, special man. He and Aunt LaVerne always went out of their way to let their family know we were loved. I miss him so much and will cherish the time I got to spend with him.
Richard Winden says
John was a partner with my father Chuck Winden at CR Winden and Associates Land Surveyors. My father and John worked together in the 1960 with Orrin Thompson homes in there design division called Tomco. I worked with John in the field surveying from 1979 to 1985 at CR Winden and Associates. He was a very hard worker and expected the same out of his crew members. I also hunted deer with John and my father at my fathers cabin by Deerwood MN. John was a special guy! I loved listening to all his stories!
