Donald L. Thompson, age 84 of Cambridge, formerly of Bethel/St. Francis died October 4, 2016 at Cambridge Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 8th at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel. Visitation will begin one hour before the service on Saturday. Interment will be in Old Bethel Cemetery.
Donald Lewis Thompson was born January 9, 1932 in Minneapolis to Morris and Solveig (Olson) Thompson. He was raised in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School. On December 31, 1969 he married Pearl and they made their home in Bethel. They then moved to St. Francis where they would live 38 years. In March 2016 they moved to Cambridge. Donald was employed by Honeywell and retired after 37 years of employment. In earlier years he served as fire chief with the Bethel Fire Department. He enjoyed deer and duck hunting, trap shooting, fishing, gardening and canning jellies. Donald was very active in breeding and showing Rottweiler dogs.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Bruce. Donald is survived by his wife, Pearl; 7 children, Barb, Doug, Beth, Jan, Dan, Cindy and Raina; 2 step-sons, Scott and Todd; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Robert, David and Steven; and by many other relatives and friends.
